Altitude too High

Well, the views are fantastic and I hate the altitude. Surprise. So dry. We wake up several times a night due to lack of moisture in our bodies. Midnight water guzzling is a newly acquired survival habit. Our skin is dry. We are constantly applying lotion to little affect. Dry eyes. I feel too close to the sun. Not appropriate for my pale, Celtic freckles…I think I hear my dermatologist screaming from afar, “Sunscreen!”

The mountainside is isolated. French is the language expected. Period. (So much more French press than in France – kooky!) Kenny has been our French connection, Merci. May his language skills continue.

Even though there are only 2 restaurants open, we have very much enjoyed the staff. Wonderfully friendly, and happy to introduce us to the art of after supper Apéritif aka after dinner shots. They sit table side with us, pour for all and quiz us on the States. It definitely has been a highlight! Perhaps that has something to do with required midnight water guzzling? hmmmm.

Overall, Switzerland is expensive. We are between seasons, so there are few people here in Vercorin, but I’m not sure this is a drawback as the roads are narrow and winding. Holy hell, I don’t want to be on them when crowded.

Kenny drove over to the Matterhorn today – which I skipped because that would be at least another 1000 -2000 feet up. I’ve had an altitude headache/nausea thing going on and I didn’t want to ‘joy-suck’ his fun day with my complaints. Gold star marriage/fun balance. I’m sure he’ll have fantastic photos to share and probably get a tan too. LOL.

Oh delicate flower, I am looking forward to walkable World Heritage Site Bern next week. Until then, I’m back to applying hand lotion here, cross-stitch (stitch and muttering bitching) and mass fluids. The travel log continues.
